Mix #27

It's been a while, things have been hard.

But here is another playlist - > Mix #27

This was mostly made in June/July.

Lots of oldies including Lou Reed, Mazzy Star, James Brown, MBV (new to DSPs), Broadcast, Alex Harvey, Sandy Denny, Suicide, Au Pairs, Frank Ocean (10 years old this one) and Minnie Riperton.

New ones courtesy of Mykki Blanco, Amyl and the Sniffers, CMAT, Erika de Casier, Faye Webster, Wet Leg, Tirzah, Little Simz, The Goon Sax, Laura Mvula, Japanese Breakfast, Sam Mehran (posthumous release), Loraine James, Sleater Kinney, Yves Tumour, Self Esteem and more.

I've probably done a lot since May but also not that much... Did get to go to some gigs for a while including Squid twice & ofc Wet Leg, finally ate at The Sportsman, camped more, ate a lot of food in Andalusia, saw Ian McKellen on stage, watched some good films including Seven Samurai on the big screen.

Mix #26

There a tonne of new stuff in here (some under the caveat new to me and also that this playlist was started last year)... Inoyamaland, Bartees Strange, Enny, Erika de Casier, Alewya, Fontaines, Tiana Major, Raheaven, Remi Wolf, A.Swayze & The Ghosts, Madlib, Gia Margaret, Nao, Squid, Cassandra Jenkins, Sleaford Mods, Angel Haze.

There is something by Sosena Gebre Eyesus (spelling is different on spotify but believe it's the same person) which sounds a bit like an Ethiopian version of Arthur Russell.

And also oldies from Aretha, Broadcast, Omega, J Cole, The Beatles, UB40, Augustus Pablo, Ry Cooder & VM Bhatt, Dylan, Prince, Joni, Nina Simone, PJ Harvey, Missy, Richie Havens, Young Marble Giants, Charles Mingus, Fairport, Brian Eno, Nas and Bowie. Actually loads of old stuff, this playlist is long!

Enjoy the Highland interlude.

Mix #26

In amongst knitting and telly (yes I watched all of Motherland S3 in one evening), I've recently read Detransition, Baby and would recommend. I've also made it to the 2/3 line of the Wolf Hall triology! Ventured out to Chelsea Physic Garden, my first visit. Watched Nomadland, didn't love it as much as I expected and preferred The Rider. Got some cinema bookings planned for the other Oscar films.

Mix #25

The new year greets us with another lockdown.

I'm doing The Guardian's 31 day literary diet, and would recommend as something to cut through the cold monotony. I'm not really one for new year resolutions, I try to fold things in throughout the year. Remember to be kind to yourself as we slug forward.

Mix #25

A playlist I put together last year, but always takes me a while to go through and edit.

New things from Landshapes, Sister Wives, Bill Callahan and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Tony Njoku's remix of Goat Girl (think I prefer to the original), Tim Heidecker and Weyes Blood, Katy J Pearson, Hot Chip and Jarvis Cocker, Dry Cleaning, ANOHNI covering Gloria Gaynor, Eartheater, Desire Marea, Alabaster DePlume, Frazey Ford (taken me a little while to get on board with this but really love this one now), Shintaro Sakamato, Special Interest.

Old things from Hiroshi Yoshimura, Mdou Moctar, Mort Garson (more reissues came out last year), Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk, D'Angelo, Fugazi, Outkast, Broadcast, Kendrick, Galaxie 500, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Dirty Three, The Clean, John Lennon.

More Robert Wyatt, Joni Mitchell and Shafiq Husayn. Plus what I would say are the two central pieces of music from 'Small Axe: Lovers Rock' and one more from it for luck. Can't wait to dance to "Silly Games" in a club. I've never really delved into reggae much, but would recommend the playlist from the film as a good starting point.

Spending my days watching telly, crafting and going out for the occasional cycle/walk. Would recommend Babyteeth on Netflix
